Storm Team 4 is tracking a nasty coastal storm that will slam the tri-state area with heavy rain and strong winds Wednesday into Thursday, a system threatening to dump up to two inches of rain in the city and more farther north — right as the evening rush gets underway.
Game 4 of the Yankees-Astros ALCS series was postponed because of the rain, which started to fall just lightly in midtown Manhattan by early afternoon.

Conditions continued to deteriorate as the storm intensified and moved over the region as the evening wears on. The worst of the storm moved through during the evening commute, and although many commutes were slowed down as a result, there were no backups directly caused by the very wet weather.
There were about 4,000 customers who lost power in New Jersey as a result of the rains and heavy winds. Equipment failures after 3 p.m. led to PSE&G customers in Westwood and Emerson being left in the dark.
Most of the heavy rain will move out before midnight, but with up to 2 inches of rain falling in the city and more north in less than eight hours, flash flooding remains a concern in prone areas.
Coastal flooding is also a concern for Long Island and parts of Connecticut, where minor flooding is possible Wednesday night, Storm Team 4 says. The National Weather Service issued a flash flood watch for Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Passaic and Union counties in New Jersey through Thursday night.
