I had the chance to spend a year examining my generation and how I became an active participant in the 60s. If you are from that generation or a child of the 60s, I think you would find the entire series of value.

I have had this piece of film in my collection since I was a kid. I absolutely love it. These are ordinary teenagers in Jersey City, New Jersey rebelling against their mayor who banned rock 'n roll. The mayors of several cities did that in 1956 and clearly, it didn't work. The rules were so rigid at that time and the people in power so pushy that was easy to rebel. There were so many places to do it. These New Jersey teenagers are not “bad kids.” They just pushing at the system.

He was also one of the leaders of the Sen. McCarthy campaign for president in 1972. He was one of the founders of the Vietnam moratorium, participated in the Peace Corps, worked for John Kerry and became a member of the Fulbright Scholarship Board. My subscribers know that this is one of the 180 interviews I did for my 1990 television series, Making Sense of the Sixties. This interview was conducted in late 1989.

The Oxford library hired me to create short award videos for their winners of the Bodleian prize. I got the chance to spend a few unique hours with John Warnock at his home in Palo Alto. John is a completely original thinker for whom there was no “in the box” thinking. I never forgot him and hope that those who enjoy his thinking appreciate this short film.

I have presented this is seen from my 1965 documentary, my first, on the wonderful mountain people surrounding Asheville North Carolina on my YouTube Channel and it is one of my most viewed clips. In this clip, I reused my earlier film for a documentary for PBS about the famed folklorist, Bascom Lamar Lunsford. To create that film, I was lucky enough to return to Madison County North Carolina and find Jim Kesterson still clog dancing. #clogdance #bluegrass #northcarolina

She grew up at a time when Virginia closed all the public schools after the Supreme Court Brown vs. Board of Education decision. When she refers to the school she is referring to the public school she attended which was shut down for years. She is an ordinary citizen selected to tell her stories for my 1990 TV series, Making Sense of the Sixties. I never forgot her and the beautiful, thoughtful way she presents her memories.

This is a four-part series that I produced years ago for Turner Broadcasting. Some of the strangest people for sure. And I was never sure about whether or not their stories were true. But they were truthful about what they experienced. But what did they experience? This question plagued all of us on the crew.

The speaker is Harris Wofford. He worked for President Kennedy who was involved with the civil rights struggle. He was a Peace Corps volunteer and an author who wrote the book Of Kennedy and Kings. He was a front-line witness to those times. Those who did not live through this may not find this of interest although I hope those interested in history will. Thank you.

The press was paying attention to aggressive in-line skating. It was a wonderful time to film some of the top skaters. Who knew that the sport would decline so radically and the clothing style would so rapidly change. Aggressive in-line skating looked like it would become a new Olympic sport. And I was lucky enough to be there to make a feature documentary that showed all.

The speaker was when I interviewed her in 1990, one of the country's leading experts on changes in America. Her company did major research studies on Americans feelings at the time. She was the head of the research firm, DYG. I solicited her expertise as part of my television series, Making Sense Of The Sixties. We got the opportunity to interview these German World War II fighter pilots. Fascinating men. And the interviews were conducted in the late 1980s so they had time to consider the events they witnessed and participated in. The pilot with burned face was an extraordinary thinker and speaker and a great storyteller. The pilots are Adolf Galland and Johannes Steinhoff, the pilot with the burned face.
