Moving in with your significant other is an important decision and should not be taken lightly. Are there repercussions to living together before exchanging wedding vows? Should you cohabitate or wait? In today’s world it is not uncommon to hear of young couple wanting to “make sure” that they “suit each other” before they make the commitment to marriage. Many want a test run with supposedly no strings attached prior to marriage—if marriage is even a consideration at all. You may not realize that those who cohabitate prior to marriage actually have a much higher (50-80% higher) chance of divorcing rather than those who marry without first living together. Cohabitation removes the formal commitment that defines marriage. It gives each party an “easy out” in case things get difficult. In this video, Winston Gosse takes a look at the question of whether one should cohabitate or wait for marriage.

Highlights:
0:50 - Marriage vs living together (cohabitation)
1:48 - How living toghether effects future marriage
2:34 - What is the draw of living together?
3:14 - Benefits of marriage without first living together

Family is important. Oftentimes people focus on the role of fathers in the lives of their sons. What benefits will an active, attentive father provide in the life of his daughter? This is not to demean the influence of mothers nor overlook the needs of sons. But consider the deep and weighty effect that fathers have on the lives of their daughters; for good or bad.

Girls with attentive fathers do better academically. They are likely to achieve higher grades in school than girls with absent fathers. Active fathers encourage their daughters to stay more years in study and seek higher education achievements. A father who is present and attentive assists his daughter to have better social and communication skills. These skills are enhanced by a father who takes an interest in his daughter’s interests and encourages her to express her viewpoint. Fathers also play an important role in developing religious behavior.

The story of early Christianity is a story of struggle, persecution and martyrdom, often at the hands of the ruling government. Yet, less than 300 years after the founding of the Church, Emperor Constantine adopted Christianity as the official religion of the most powerful empire the world had ever known. Who was Constantine and why did he claim to be a Christian?

It is common to hear older individuals quipping that "kids these days don’t even know where food really comes from”, that “they think it just comes from the grocery store." As metropolitan areas like Vancouver, Edmonton and Toronto continue to expand into nearby agricultural areas; we have to ask ourselves a question. Are mega cities good for the planet, or are they going to starve us?

Could you fix the economy with just four simple words? “Get Rid of Taxes,” “Government Assistance for Everyone,” “Just Give it time”? We could come up with a four word slogan to promote just about any so-called fix for today’s problems. However, none of these slogans, and none of the policies being pushed by politicians around the globe address the root cause of every economic crisis.

Have you ever played the blame game?

Is there ever a winner in this game that many play?

Some refer to this age as the time of “blame culture” where blaming has become toxic and where many fail to assume responsibility for their own actions --- they are quick to blame others and feel justified in doing so.
It seems our society has the default position of pointing the finger and of course it takes less energy to blame others than to improve our own circumstances.
